Installing BMC on Arduino 2.0

by
BMC Documentation

If you want to use BMC for your next MIDI Controller you will need a Teensy and the software for it, this includes Teensyduino and BMC.

These steps will show you how to instal Teensyduino, the BMC Boards Package and The BMC Library.

Please note that these steps are on mac but the process is the same on windows. You can click on the images for their full size

This documentation has been updated to show installation of BMC for ESP32 as well, Version 2.3.3 supports some ESP32 boards for Beta testing, this documentation is being updated in advance so please check the latest BMC releases at https://github.com/neroroxxx/BMC/releases to see if v2.3.3 has been released.

Step 1

Add the Teensyduino and BMC Board Urls, to do this you will head to Arduino's Settings

Step 2

In Settings at the bottom youll see the Additional boards manager URLs section, click the icon next to it

Step 3

A window will open up, there you can type in these urls (BMC supports some ESP32 boards as of version 2.3.3, the urls below include the BMC for ESP32 boards package url):

https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/package_teensy_index.json
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/neroroxxx/package_badassmidi_index/master/package_badassmidi_index.json
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/neroroxxx/package_badassmidi_esp32_index/refs/heads/main/package_badassmidi_esp32_index.json

The first url is the teensyduino url, the second one is the BMC Boards for Teensy url and the last one is the BMC for ESP32 url. I recommend adding and installing them all, however, Teensyduino is required for the BMC for Teensy Boards, the BMC for ESP32 is a repackage of the offical ESP32 boards

After this click ok and save your settings

Step 4

Next you can instal Teensyduino and BMC, to do this you will go to your boards manager on arduino and search for teensy

Be sure to instal Teensyduino first then BMC for Teensy, a boards package named "BMC for ESP32" will also show up which you can install if you are using ESP32, when using ESP32 you only need the BMC for ESP32 boards package and the BMC Library.

Step 5

After the boards are installed you can instal the BMC Library, just go to your library manager on arduino and search for BMC. When installing BMC you'll be prompted to instal the Adafruit GFX Library and it's dependencies, you must install all these.

As of version 2.3.3, BMC will require additional libraries: FastLED, XPT2046_Touchscreen, and NimBLE-Arduino, these come preinstalled with the board packages

Step 6

Now you'll be able to run BMC, BMC will appear in arduino as a separate set of boards, just select the board you will be using and youre ready to go. for Teensy you will see BMC for Teensy and BMC for ESP32

That's it! you are ready to go, go build yourself an awesome MIDI Controller and make some great music!
